quarantine nostalgia.

Quarantine Nostalgia is a creative zine that uses the guidelines and rules of the TRIAD approach. The TRIAD approach is as follows; 1. you 2. something timeless 3. something timely.

This particular zine is based off of events that were occurring in my life in November of 2020. History seemed to oddly be repeating itself, i.e. Dawson’s Creek got released on Netflix and I had started working out to Billy Blanks TAE-BO again. These were events that I used to partake in with my mother when I was growing up. We would workout to TAE-BO and then Dawsons Creek would be on cable right after we finished our workout.

Meet the characters.

Billy Blanks.

A fitness guru. Billy Blanks, the weight-loss hero of the stereotypical 90’s living room. Capitalizing on the fitness movement, he became a household name and still continues to inspire people with his encouraging “count it, work it” phrases.

kristen mauck.

My mother. Just an east coast gal raising her two young daughters in North West Arkansas. Born in Connecticut, Kristen Jean Fouch Mauck the youngest of four children would soon become a 90’s QVC legend to all of her friends and family.

dawson-01.jpg

dawson leery.

A fictional teenager. From the best coming of age television show of the 2000’s, Dawson Leery is the main character in the hit series Dawsons Creek. His character goes through the struggles of being a teen in a small town with big dreams.

Up close & personal.

A closer look at some of my favorite spreads from this zine. This project was a really fun reflection into my childhood and some of the things that made it so great. After a year of covid-19 and doing classes online all semester, this project acted as a creative release for me and a much needed pause on the effects of the real world. You could even call it a time machine.
